Blog Tour: Book Cover Review of The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco

Good morning everyone! Today I am so excited to post my tour stop for The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco! I’m a big fan of her work, and spent my summer pouring over her The Bone Witch series. After reading that dark and atmospheric tale, I was so thrilled to see that she had a new book coming out, and when I saw that JeanBookNerd was hosting a tour for it, I had to jump on board. Thank you to Jean, Harper Collins, and Rin Chupeco for including me on this tour and sending me a free copy of this book!

Unfortunately, the book only arrived yesterday, so rather than doing a incomplete review or just doing a spotlight post, I’m going to do something a little different! In keeping with my love of book covers, I’m going to do a book cover review today! Keep scrolling to see my thoughts.

About the Book

Frozen meets Mad Max in this epic teen fantasy duology bursting with star-crossed romance, immortal heroines, and elemental magic, perfect for fans of Furyborn.

Generations of twin goddesses have long ruled Aeon. But seventeen years ago, one sister’s betrayal defied an ancient prophecy and split their world in two. The planet ceased to spin, and a Great Abyss now divides two realms: one cloaked in perpetual night, the other scorched by an unrelenting sun.

While one sister rules Aranth—a frozen city surrounded by a storm-wracked sea —her twin inhabits the sand-locked Golden City. Each goddess has raised a daughter, and each keeps her own secrets about her sister’s betrayal.

But when shadowy forces begin to call their daughters, Odessa and Haidee, back to the site of the Breaking, the two young goddesses —along with a powerful healer from Aranth, and a mouthy desert scavenger —set out on separate journeys across treacherous wastelands, desperate to heal their broken world. No matter the sacrifice it demands.

Review

They say that a book cover only has 7 seconds to grab a readers attention. 7 seconds might decide if a book is going home with a new reader or will stay on a dusty shelf somewhere.

If I saw the Never Tilting World on a bookshelf, I would definitely take it home instantly. (The really cool concept in the synopsis would probably make me want it as well, but at first glance, I would want it.) Maybe I’m a sucker for dark book covers and cool swooping typography, but there’s just something about this book cover that is so jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

When your eyes first land on this cover, they probably land on the yellow part of the glob. After all, it’s in the center and it practically seems to glow! Yellow can be a very powerful color, especially when used in contexts like this. From there, you might start to notice the other details of the cover, like moon at the top of the globe, the deep blue crystals, or the swirling details circling the globe itself! I’m so amazed by the amount of detail that went into this cover, and I love that it defies genres in a way! It can come off as being a bit sci-fi despite being a fantasy novel, but I think that that might help to attract a new readership!

The title text, while a bit ornate and fun to look at with its long, sweeping tails on the letters, doesn’t detract from the rest of the cover. I love the fact that the designer kept the text in a simple white rather than layering of text effects like color shifts or faux embosses. (No hate on those effects! I personally love them, but I think they would have been distracting here. I wish Rin Chupeco’s name was a little larger, as it gets a bit lost beneath everything else. For what it’s worth, it is perfectly balanced with the word “Never” above it, so I can’t fault the designer too much.

I bet you can guess what rating I’m giving this cover. It’s an absolute 5/5 stars from me! I want to find some way to prominently display this cover on my shelf because it deserves it. A big shout out to the designer of this cover, and also a congratulations to Rin Chupeco for getting yet another amazing book cover!
